Indestructive Toy Ideas Needed for my boxer and Bulldog

Question:
I have a nine month old boxer and an english bulldog who seem to eat or destroy every toy, except the Kongs and airdog toys..I have tried the ropes,my boxer eats them and I have to get them when they come out the other end,so he no longer gets them..he also eats tennis balls,he has amazed me with his ability to destroy the strongest toys, the Kongs work but I would like a different variety of toys to try with him,my english isn't as bad as the boxer it just seems to take her longer to destroy them..Any ideas would be great, thanks Amber

Answer:
there are companies that make toys for tough chewing dogs
there is an indestructible ball out there and also really hard chew toys
like the gallileo bone
you might check www.petedge.com I think they carry the balls
one of my big dogs also liked the big rubber ball with a handle that they give to young horses to play with
I heard of a big dog that played with a bowling ball!

Answer:
Oh I love your boxer!
I use Kong and all Kong made products, like their tennis ball-like toys.
I've heard great things about Tuffies toys too.
I don't like the rubber toys (unless it has a smooth exterier) because they will tear off the rubber and eat it, causing multi-colored poo and vomit. Yuck!
I've had great luck with PetEdge.com toys, even their stuffed ones are more durable than Petsmart. Their quality is great, and so are the prices so I don't mind when they fall apart!
I've also bought yard sale toys (eyes removed) from kids for 50 cents a piece. Also a cheap way to go!
Rope is good, you can dunk it in water or broth and freeze it, for extra durability or just to get them interested.
My biggest problem is getting my three not to PULL on the toys when they play together!
Here is my pack:

Just saw where someone suggested ROPE for toys ..If a dog gets a string or thread wrapped up around his intestines ..Its a matter of life or death . I have been told by all my vets and trainers never never use the rope toys or materials that can be shredded and make strings that can wrap around when swallowed . FYI Tammy

Answer:
CUTE BUNCH OF BOXERS!!!Thanks for all the suggestions I went and looked on PetEdge and I think I will try the Jolly balls and they also had this really cool toy you put treats inside and they have to try and get them out,it was only eight bucks and looked like alot of fun....About the Rope toys..I DID buy them until Moses,my male boxer came into the house chasing his butt, I had to make him sit/stay to figure out what the heck he was doing..he ate some of the rope from the toy and I had to help him get it out, sooo I do not give any of my dogs the ropes anymore even though the others do fine with them Moses just eats them...I will keep everyone posted on how he does with his new toys when I get them..Thanks so much..Amber

Yeah, that's why I like to freeze them. They seem to like it better too!
I found, that with mine anyway, they don't get ANY toy without supervision. They are just to destructive! My trainer said the ONLY toy she would ever think to allow the dog to have unsupervised is a Kong.
Also, I like to put wet food in the Kong and freeze that too. I find it lasts longer!

I had a Shepard/Akita mix who chewed everything we gave him! We found a toy that is called "Tire Chews" and you can get them at pet shops. They are toys made out of recycled tires. They are great for the "agressive" chewers because, "Mungo" never was able to rip that one apart. Our Golden Retriever also loves hers.
On a side note, I wouldn't use rope period. It can harm a dog if they ingest the pieces of string when the rope comes undone.
God Bless!

AMber....Both your dogs look like Boxers to me.
IF that is them in your sig pic.

Answer:
My boxer loves her Jolly ball. they make them with a rope or a handle. If your dogs chew really bad I'd get the one with the handle. They come in many different sizes. They're indestructible. She chews on it and hasn't made a dent in it. She loves to throw it in the air and try to catch it as well. I haven't had a bad experience with mine and it's a great toy!

My hounds love 'em, too, but both are able to destroy them within a couple days! The ONLY toys I've found that last are Kongs, Holey-Moley balls, Air-Kong and the Nylabone Durables. (...and still searching!)
Every other toy I've purchased so far for "aggressive chewers" has failed the 5-minute test.
That means poor Mavis cannot have any stuffies at all because Heidi will have the stuffing out in seconds. We're waiting for a stuffie made with Kevlar!
Meanwhile, I take hollow bone and/or kongs, layer & stuff the heck out of 'em (yogurt, generic cheerios, peanut butter, kibble, bananas, frozen blueberries, etc etc, et al) and it seems to keep them occupied for about an hour (but only if I layer it enough!).
A decently-priced site I've found: www.jbpet.com.
I haven't compared pricing to petedge.com yet, but I will!

....hundreds of dollars later and still searching for a Heidi-proof stuffie

Good luck with your search. I check eBay on a regular basis and often find great deals on bully sticks and the like. One VERY important thing to be aware of is to watch you dogs very closely when giving them any treat, especailly rubber ones. I got lucky in my education on this topic. I had just rescued a retired racing greyhound and was experimenting with different chews. She had never been given anything at the track to chew on and wasn't quite sure what to do with rawhides, kongs, balls, or anything. I got the not so bright idea to buy a squeaky toy to see if sound might peak her interest. It dissapeared 2 days before her spay date. I just thought it was behind a couch or under a bed and didn't give it much thought. The vet "found" it when the anisthea made her sick and up came VERY hard, jaged pieces of plastic. We took x-rays to make sure that it all came up and luckily it did. A dogs stomach acid will turn soft rubber into what is escentially a plastic knife. You can only imagine what this could do to a dogs instestines. If you are lucky you will have to pay for a surgery to repair the damage, or release an ubstruction. I don't want to even mention what you and your babies could go through if you are unlucky. Again good luck with your search, but variety in toys may not be worth the possible risks associated with new toys.

Like Magsmum, I find nylabone durables to last the longest with our American Bulldog. She likes the one with a knot on both ends; about $17.00 at Petsmart. She will chew off only one end and then its' time for another. I don't care though as it keeps her busy for a long time.

I've found that there is no such thing as an indestructible toy.
My AB goes through everything in pretty short order.

Answer:
Well, these aren't indestructable, but they are different.

Durability . . . If used as an interactive toy (one you and your dog play with together), your tug will last many many months. But, like any other toy, if you let your dog use it as a chew toy, it will be destroyed - but, he'll have a blast doing it.
You can also select a rescue to recieve a portion of the profit.

I just recently discovered Kong Toys on Ebay! What a godsend they are! A little more $ than I was prepared to spend, but that's ok. I have a year old Border/Shepard mix. I tried them all...rawhide, nyla, booda bones...etc. She chewed the daylights out of everything! I'd give it to her and it'd be gone in no time. Just yesterday, her new Kong toy came in the mail. I ordered the black rubber bone that you can shove treats into the ends. It's great and she loves it! I put a dog biscuit into each end and it took her three hours to get them out. There's not a mark on the actual bone, either. I highly recomend them! As soon as my checkbook recovers from this one, I intend to get her something different, so she can have some variety.
