my dog is dragging his butt on the floor!!!

Question:
omgosh what does this mean when they do this? i just saw my dog doing it and i remember someone told me what it means but i dont remember. can anyone tell me what it means and if i should worry? thankx

Answer:
The couple things I know of that it can mean is one his butt just itches, two his --rear end-- glands aren't being supressed right because of soft stools and that causes irritation and butt dragging and three it could be worms. Was this just a one time thing or is it happening often? Is it after he poos??

Answer:
It can be a symptom of several things; it can be worms, enlarged --rear end-- gland, etc. The best bet is to at least call your vet and describe the dog. They will probably want to see him, but this is your best bet.
Good luck!

hey guys i have a homeopatic doctor that told me to use a remedy called "Cina" and i'm going to buy it at the local health food store. Its cheaper and from my expierience on other pets it worked. Im going to try it out before i go spend a fortune at the vet. thankx

Answer:
Is your dog scooting his butt? I know that some dogs do that when they need their --rear end-- glands expressed.

Answer:
he's not doing it all that often. I'm watching him really good. Hes running loose in my house and he hasn't done it again. Maybe there's nothing wrong with him. I've just never seen him do that and its been 2 months that i've had him. I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks!

Answer:
Sound like this rear is itchy. My chihuahua does this every now and then, I think is so cute .

Answer:
My Yorkie does it, but usually only when he has some poo stuck to his fur back there..
They need to start selling puppies and carpet cleaners together!!

Answer:
Fred scoots after he poops... he thinks my carpet is good toilet paper.

Answer:
My grandparets jrt used to do that every once in a while! It was the funniest thing! He would also lay on his stomach with all fours out (not like under him) and scoot himself across the floor- we took him to the vet and the vet said he was fine!

My dog, Miss Daisy, is always doing the lay on stomach and scooch thing. We call it "dragging her spoodle".
DH and I always giggle about it. She is just rubbing her tummy. Scratching her spoodle.
On occasion, DH will do some ad lib " Sarge, they got me. I can't go on for much longer. I don't think I am gonna make it." (in no way, shape, or form am I making fun of the military - fyi)

Answer:
This is from full --rear end-- glands. They need to be cleaned, most groomers empty these when they bath a doggy.

Answer:
hey everybody! i haven't seen him do it in a long time. the other day he did it in the grass after he pooped but hasn't done it since then. I also had a friend who use 2 be a vet check him out. She said he was very healthy and there is nothing wrong with him. so i feel much better. thankx again!!!

Answer:
Glad he's OK
If Toby has a difficult poo, he sometimes does the butt scoot in the grass. I think it's more when he has a "burny" poo
One time he just wasn't thinking and he scooted on the road. He jumped up pretty quick! Talk about road rash
