cat loves lettuce

Question:
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced having/knowing a cat who seems obsessed with lettuce? My cat can tell, even when he's on another floor, (I live in a townhouse) the second I get lettuce out of the fridge. He then jumps on the counter and starts picking away at it until he can get a big leaf to fall on the floor to chow down on. I wonder what type of nutrients are in the lettuce that the cat is drawn to? Any ideas?

Answer:
No ideas about the lettuce, but I had a cat who loved corn on the cob and asparagus.

Answer:

Answer:
yeah, that makes sense to me regarding grass and chlorophyl etc. I never did think of asking the vet. Maybe Max is deficient in some nutrient or mineral that he gets from lettuce, I don't know, but it is really something how his radar goes on as soon as I open the fridge and get out the lettuce!

Answer:
Hi there,
or just maybe he gets bored with just cat food and likes the way the lettuce feels and taste....hard to say My little Chiweiner "Buddy" when I first got him I was eating a big salad and he was whining and begging for it . I told him theres nothing in this bowl you want and I sat it down on the floor for him to see it wasn't something a dog would be interested in eating, and I will be darned if he didn't eat the entire salad onions green peppers and all.....while every other dog/cat I have ever owned my entire life would never touch a salad in a million years...

My cat LOVES lettuce! Along with many other fruits and veggies. She does not eat meat (Except for tuna) She loves to come steal green beans from my grandma when she is stringing them. And when my grandma cuts like, watermelons and cantaloupes, she is up on the counter meowing for some. She is SO cute!

Answer:

whenever i get out the lettuce to feed my rabbits and guinea pigs, my cat faith goes absolutly crazy! i will give her a peice and she will throw it off the counter, stare at it for a second then pounce on it. she does it for awhile then she eats it. i thought it was just because she had grown up around bunnys and thought she was a bunny its weird to see how many other kittys eat weird things!
PS. how do u add a picture, so i can show you all my pets

Answer:
nuttz4muttz- My cat too. She goes crazy! The same thing for all the other fruits and veggies. She meows and everything for tuna. Besides tuna, she is a pure vegetarian, just like my grandma. LOL (Laugh out loud)

Answer:
My first cat (25 years ago) was a mixed breed that came to me from one of my students. She was a real Queen of the House who had two favorite foods -- broccoli and pumpkin! She loved Hallowe'en because she knew she would be getting lots of the stringy insides of the pumpkin. She even ate the seeds!!
Go figure!

Answer:
My cat loves pizza crust--laid the box down on the ground (trying to rearrange garbage bags)--lid flew open & that was the open invitation. I stared in amazement--& she came back for 2nd's. Now we save'em & she gets 1 every other day until she loses interest (usually 3-5 days out) & we only do pizza 2-3X's/year. We also fight over chocolate--she wants it & I have to hide in the bathroom. Could care less over fish but occasionally when I buy a groc store fried chicken, she gets a leg. She gnaws steak bones for 15 min & walks away.

Answer:
When I was a boy my family had a very smart cat (Garfield, my sister's cat actually) who made the equation that mouth-eat-food was the same for cats and people. If a human in the house was eating something it did not have to look or smell like something a cat would want for this cat to be at least curious. I still wonder how the cat dealt with the hand-arm-fork part of it.
I ate a lot of raw vegetables back then. While I ate I could tease the cat into becoming very agitated that he was not getting Food. I relieved this agitation by giving him tiny pieces of raw broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, whatever. Pretty soon I had him doing the trick (a lame trick, I know) of eating raw vegetables on command for the amusement of others in the family.
It was a lighthearted occasional thing. His usual diet remained cat-centric.

Answer:
Amy Jo, here's a stupid question for you. I actually feel stupid asking but oh well. Do live in MT. Pleasent?

Answer:
iceberg lettuce doesn't have much nutrients. see if your cat will like spinach. I've learned I cannot leave my salad unattended. Or if there are leaves that are wilted that I dont' want, I just leave on the counter for the cats. Had one cat that loved cantaloupe melon.

Answer:
I had a cat that went NUTS over cantaloupe. She liked other melons too but not as much as cantaloupe.

Answer:
NO WAY! I thought it was just my cats. my calico ALWAYS helps herself to my salad. she skips right over the chicken and goes right for the lettuce! both her and her sister "steal" food from us all the time. brownies, crackers, even my strawberry milk! a few weeks ago i was sitting on the couch eating cheez-its and my tabby came up behind me and stole one right from my hand i couldn't even get it to my mouth! they also stole like 15 cherry tomatoes my sister in law had left on the counter. they're crazy!
