BEW babiesQuestion:Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone here is breeding Black Eyed Whites, or if you know anyone who is. I am fighting to obtain some, and am having such a hard time finding anyone who has any available. I'm more than willing to drive anywhere in the midwest, and am willing to pay for shipping or to help with the finances of breeding a litter if it would help. PLEASE let me know!!! Thank you all. Answer: Just out of curiosity, why do they have to be BEWs, specifically? With all the rats in shelters needing homes, is coat and eye colour really that important? Having said that, I've seen photos of BEWs and they are truly stunning, although tricky to breed (megacolon is particularly common among BEWs). Answer: I would LOVE a BEW as well!! I do not care for colors, or anything like that. If they need a home im here for them, but cant a girly have a favorite rattie?? It would be BEW or HIMI for me...and have no been able to find one. Ratta Muffin Rescue in NJ has BEW adults for adoption! But i think thats a bit to far for RM3...although i think shipping is $99?? Answer: YOu said you don't have the room to keep your one Male who didnt sell, just wondering why you want another rat if you cant keep the little male? Answer: Do the animal shelters in your area have websites? You might find something on there. I was the same way about PEWs....had to have a couple since I've wanted one since I was little. Now, I've finally got them, and they'll be coming home in a little while! Other than PEWs, I don't care what colour they are, either. As long as they're healthy and happy, I'm happy. Answer: Are you breeding yourself? I don't think you should get another rat if you cannot keep the one you have and I don't think you should breed with out having homes lined up, ok that said. What area are you and Pit_Luv in? I know of tons of bew and pew in shelters. People tend to see them as "common' and there isn't much of a desire for them. Let me know! Answer: I live in NS Canada, but i thnk i may be on my way to New Jersey to pick up a BEW dumbo rescue in a few weeks! Yes i know im crazy haha But im adopting him and hes a BEW soo its gotta be worth it. haha Answer: If he's coming from the US please be sure to do a thorough quarantine in a different building altogether from the rats you now have. Airborne diseases such as SDA, Sendai and KRV (KRV isn't typically airborne, but infected particles can become airborne) are common in the US, as well as parts of Canada. These diseases are quite often lethal. While there are no viral outbreaks of SDA/Sendai/KRV listed for New Jersey since 2002, there has been a report of an SDA case in New York (Brooklyn) in July 2004. Here in NS we are fortunate not to have to deal with those horrible diseases, so we tend to be complacent when it comes to taking in new rats and integrating them with resident rats straightaway. RMCA Viral Outbreak Map: http://www.rmca.org/Data/ Also on the bottom of that page is a list of links to articles on SDA, Sendai and KRV. It's always better to be safe than sorry even when we don't think it's necessary, so please be sure to do a full quarantine to protect the rats you currently have. Answer: Great information, Bridget. Answer: Thanks Banshee, i have all the stuff prepared already. Im going to quartine them for 2-4 weeks just to make sure. These rats have been vetted and check for deseases, all have clean bill of health. Vet records to show for it too. They came from a breeder who had 170 rats in a 2 bdroom apt. RMRR took them all in as an eemergencie rescue and had them all vetted and cleared, as they had some hybrids in the batch so they didnt want to chance anything. This is the rescue my BEW is comming from. The Himi im adopting to keep him company is from another rescue were a breeder just gave up and didnt want them no more. They have been vetted as well, due to having 160+ healthy rats, didnt want to infect the whole mischeif. Soo im pretty happy with how safe they are, but im still going to take all the precausions to keep my current ratties safe. RMRR has taking in 300+ ratties since June, im soo happy to help them out. But i have to add, i never ever would have figured soemone woudl come on here and blabble off this much info like its water to them haha Thanks sooo much! Shows that someone really really cares about thier ratties, as well with everyone elses. I really appriciate it! |
