Rosey Turning up her nose at Suebee's recipeQuestion:I bought all the ingreditents today (minus the soy nuts, they only ones the store had were bbq falvored somehow I didnt think those were right lol). So far Rosey wont touch the stuff, She is use to hamster food, at least thats what the mix that was sent with her looked like. I hadnt a chance tillnow to get all the ingredients for it but now shes just completly ignoring it. Any advice? Answer: Dunno, we tried it too, and the ratties picked through it. Sooo, we took everything they liked, and mixed it all together with some other stuff they like, and voila!! They love it. We just had a hairless rescue rat that passed away at 4 years old, so the diet they are on must be ok, despite people using Suebee's diet, telling us that "the only way for a healthy life is Suebee's diet". We also have a male rat, 3 1/2 years old, and still hanging in there. He won't last much longer though, but I figure if they get fresh fruit and veggies, that is what probably prolongs their life. Our other ratties are all about a year old, but so far they are all healthy Answer: I've got two ratties. I just feed them what I eat, minus the junk food. This includes a lot of the stuff in Suebee's diet (puffed wheat, puffed rice, oats, pasta noodles) and some other stuff that's not there (chicken, pumpkin seeds, fresh and dried fruits and veggies, and other stuff). I refuse to feed dog food anymore (to my rats or my dogs). I've had Annabelle for close to a year and Keely only for a week. Keely was fed about the same foods at her old home. Both are happy and healthy so far. I say just keep trying Suebee's diet for a while. She may just need to get hungry enough before she's willing to give it a try. If after a couple of days she hasn't touched it or at least picked out a few ingredients she likes, give her other options...fruits, veggies, a little chicken, etc. Find out what she likes other than hamster food. If she's a really picky eater, you may have to get creative in ways to get her to eat what's good for her (like flavoring things to make them taste like something else). Answer: The problem with hamster food is that the tasty bits that attract the rats are the worst possible things for them to be eating. So if you take away those tasty bits and replace them with less tasty more healthy food they're bound to go on strike for a bit. I'd leave it with her for a couple of days -- once she realizes she's not going to get the hamster mix, she'll start eating the Suebee mix. But I'd also give her bits of healthy human food during the transition period, but not enough to fill her up totally. My guys have gone through periods where they'd pick out just certain things in the Suebee mix, until I stop filling up the dishes til it's nearly all gone. They soon realized that if they don't eat it all, the food won't magically reappear I don't feed my guys just Suebee mix. They get pablum and sliced bananas every morning and usually will get a healthy supper (veggies, fruit, pasta, rice, scrambled eggs -- usually my supper leftovers) every night. They also get lab blocks. If I notice they're not touching their Suebee mix, though, I skip supper for a night or two til they begin to start eating the mix again - that way they get a balanced diet. Answer: yes people please do not think that suebees mix is written in stone. as with most omnivoires they need balance in their life. so try to follow the food guide and what your rats like to eat. Answer: Christy, is she eating now? Answer: What is Suebee mix? Can someone post it so I know what everyone is talking about? Answer: Sue heres a link http://www.ratsrule.com/diet.html I have been told that this is the main rat diet thats sworn by, anything certainly was better than the hamster feed mix she was eatting. Diana, Yes shes eatting it now, thanks for asking. I felt really bad the day before because she hadnt eatten and went ahead and gave her a couple bites of the old stuff Mixed in and she went to town after that. Shes eatting it all now without any of the old junk she was being feed mixed in. Answer: Cool, that's good to hear, Christy! Answer: Awww, that's great that she's eating it now Have you given her pablum? I started feeding it to my guys when they were ill but now feed it every morning with sliced banana - they go mad about it |
