He's starting to get stinky if you know what i mean lol :p Answer: With the Newf pups we bath on a need to bath basis,which can sometimes be once a week...but, try not to make it that often. We use a nice gentle oatmeal shampoo, Alexanders own, or A1 all systems are nice products. we start them at about 4 weeks of age. It's also a good idea to get the pup used to regular grooming especially when you know it's going to be a big coated dog. Make sure you towel dry nicely, we give the pups a quick blast with the high velocity dryer on low. A general rule of thumb is no more often than every 6 weeks. I personally use White Rain on my dogs, because that is what I use. It does a good job. He just freaked out trying to get out of there so bad so I put him in the sink. He was a little more calm but still nervous. I finished bathing him and brought him over to be dried. He freaked out some more. He couldn't stay still was running around the room like a crazy dog. I gave him a few treats and he sat on my lap and calmed down a bit so he could be dried. Once the bath is over, they will run laps like mad, fling themselves on the ground, etc. It must just be a dog thing. Try putting your dog in the sink or tub even when he's not going to be bathed. Do it periodically, and offer lots of yummies. That way, he'll at least not be nervous about the bathing place. As for the bath, it just takes repetition. Answer: I think you should bath every 6-8 weeks because if you bath more frequently than that it destroys the natural oils in the dogs skin and makes the skin flaky. that really depends on the type of shampoo you use. there isn't really one rule that applies to all dogs. you need to bathe them as often as required - for some dogs that is only once or twice a year, for some (especially those suffering from contact allergies) once or twice a week. i'm certainly not for overbathing, but pollution is another thing you have to take into consideration these days. there is absolutely no benefit to bathing your dog less often if you live in a city/area, where pollution is higher than you may think. it collects on the paws and body and the dog ingests the particles when he licks himself. i live in los angeles and even after four years i'm still astonished how much dirt i can rinse off my clean-looking dog, even if i give him a bath every week or two. when i exercise him riding my bike, i wash down his feet afterward so i can examine his pads and it makes me feel better seeing all that black dirt (i'd guess mainly made up of rubber particles from car tires) go down the drain. Answer: I've heard johnsens baby oil shampoo is good for using on dogs but there are specific shampoos of course.. like biogroom. Answer: i like earthbath products a lot. :) they are fully biodegradable. something else that has worked great for my dog is dr. bronner's soap (http://drbronner.com/drb_sai_liquids.html), the unscented "baby mild". in the summer i add a little essential oil of rosemary and citronella as an insect repellant. smells really good too. :) Answer: i use biogroom and veterinary shampoo |
