Stuffed toys questionQuestion:So... I wanted to buy a stuffed toy for a long time for Boris (6 months old golden retriever). I finally got to last Saturday. Needless to say, he loved it. So much that he didn't want to drop it for his walk... The problem is, the thing got destroyed in about 8 hours. He managed to tear the two legs and put all the stuffing all over the floor. Lovely. So... Does anyone know any kind of stuffed toy that actually lasts a bit? Thanks! Answer: there is a pile still on top of my fridge to be repaired..but i won and now Victor is very careful with his toys. Because he is careful he gets to have the reallly fun ones. His favortite he got for his found day party. It giggles and vibrates then says THATS FUNNY! we worked hard to get to that stage. As soon as he started ripping one i took it away from him. He learned. We would say oh oh..look at what you did..that is such a shame on you as i put stuffing in a sack...we went thru a few. I get mine at the thrifty store, don't pay more than a dollar ..that is how much his giggling one cost. In the beginning i remove anything hard, like noses and eyes and that little tag is too much temptation too.. Answer: There isn't a stuffed toy that lasts more than an hour or two in this house. LOL I've totally given up that thought. :) Answer: I taught all my guys but it is a pain in the beginning..u have to watch them like a hawk and soon as you hear those first threads rip..it gets taken away...it is a good way to teach them to be gentle. Bronki was my sweetest..he learned very very early, but rip and shred Vic i didn't get until he ws 5 months. IF you can teach them not to tear up their toys and they will have more fun in the long run. Bronki had this one, it was a left over baby toy where one side was a terry star (that squeeked) and then a curved piece of plastic with a moon on the other side filled with that rattly plastic. I use to set it right over his back and no matter which way he turned his head there ws a toy. He wans't more than a 6 weeks old when i did that. He still had it when he died..every once in awhile he would root around in the toy basket and take out his star and moon..this time it just fit on his muzzle. I sure wish all of you could have met my Bronki. Answer: stuffed toys last forever in my home. that is until salty came to stay with us. she and scout systematically destroyed every stuffed toy in their relentless games of tug of war. i would come home every day to a fuzzy storm exploded in my house. i bought them appropriate tug toys but no...the stuffed ones were much better for ripping and killing lol. there is now one toy left and i stop them from going to far with it so it lasts awhile. Answer: Stuffed toys are not tug of war toys in this house- hold !!! Goldens love their whoobies and I have some that date back to the 60s ....When the rip apart grand-dogs come in, the toys are put up and ropes etc are substituated. !!!! My goldens went to yard sales with me and picked out their woobies and took them to the check out......50 cents to 1 $ bought a friend forever ! Answer: ropes are for tug..stuffed animals inside sometomes make for a very gentle tug.they seem to know the difference...the serious stuff happens out doors where things can get a bit ruffer. Wish i knew what a woobie was..do you know who little bear is? if u squeeze him in the middle he giggles like a real child..and then if u squeeze his paw he will tell u the whole story. Bronki loved his little bear..Hyia knows when we go to the thrift store to start squeezing all the stuffed animals and call me if she finds a good one. Answer: Well I tried again, it took probably 10 minutes to get a hole in it. My husband tried to take it from him and he was growling and snapped at him too (which he never does)... I guess no more stuffed toys. Answer: CJ will tear it one up quickly. Brandy, the lab I used to have, loved all her toys from day one. If you told her which stuffed toy to get, she would bring it to you. She was a special dog. Answer: Smkie .... under a Google search look up "The Legend of the Evil Woobie!"....Fun read and things ! Answer: Wow, that is REALLY NAUGHTY to snap at your husband...I hope he let your dog know that that behavior is not acceptable  I can't give stuffed toys either because my dogs gut them in a matter of minutes! They also scare me because of when I used to work in the vet clinic I saw so many intestinal blockage surgeries and they were always from stuffing, socks, or greenies!! Answer: The ONLY stuffed toys that Brady has not destroyed are the Big Mean Kitty series. They are like triple stitched so that it is harder to destroy them. I will see if I can find a site for you. Brady even has destroyed his large Orbee bone, but it took him MONTHS, but he has been biting off piece by piece this week. I have thrown away 3 pieces or it, maybe 4. I have also performed surgery on a stuffed duck twice this month. It was so cute and it makes a crackle noise when he bites it (it used to quack too, but that has been broken since the second day), so I have stitched it up twice. Answer: Here is what they look like: http://www.labmed.org/catalog/RP-Kitty.html I have Dirty Rotten Kitty and Suspicious Chicken. You can get them at Petsmart or at Target too. You can get them in all sizes too, they even come in super huge sizes for a really really big dog, the one I get Brady is about $12.00 or so (he weighs 80 pounds), but the really huge one is $30.00 but it is really big. Answer: If your dog likes the woobies as much as mine does, she'll want more. One thing I learned is don't buy new. That way if he does chew it up you're not out much. Find some yard sales where you can pick up old woobies for really cheap. Old teddy bears old floppy bunnies, anything that is soft. There are currently at least a dozen in the woobie hospital basket waiting for repair in my house. Answer: Last Christmas Santa found a soft moose with a ribbon and bell at good will for $1. ( plus 10 % off on Wed. for S.S.) We call him Christmoose ..... I did buy a birthday cake with candles for Chip's birthday 5 years ago....it played happy birthday which wore out...but he still loves the cake !!! Looks brand new ! He loves his woobies ! Answer: my pit will tar up any stufed toy i gave him so when he tore it up i took all the stuffing out and gave it back to him and he was just as happy but no mess to clean up! Answer: OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!! An evil Woobie !! Answer: Well I was about to give up, but found this (http://pets.babycatalog.com/pet-toys/bamboo-5-star-general-dog-toy-814121) at petco. So I was like 'what the heck, let's try it'. Well, it's been 3 weeks and it's still in one piece :) Granted, he doesn't like it as much as the other stuffed toys, but he does play with it. *sigh* my dog is so spoiled. Answer: I've heard of these toys where the legs and stuff come off, so the dog can tear them off to his heart's content, but they have velcro on them so you just throw it back on. Someone I know owns this toy and took these pictures. Unfortunately, I don't know where you can get these toys.:( http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/gaddymep9/47b4dc09b3127cceb939230f09040000001610.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/gaddymep9/47b4dc09b3127cceb939325949c20000001610.jpg Answer: That's interesting ! luckily Chip doesn't rip and destroy . I think that dogs with soft mouths tend to be more gentle. Bird dogs..... but when it's a tug of war, the woobie loses . This is when I substitute ropes etc. To start a pup out, you have to teach them not to " kill".....alot of poor woobie as you stuff and stitch helps. My goldens have never "killed" shoes or slippers etc except one pup who decided that the tassel of her Daddy's good loafers were fair game.! Answer: Yeah I was reading a magazine about goldens that said they have a soft mouth and are good at not destroying things, and I was snickering the whole time because obviously it's NOT the case of Boris... Answer: I've gotten a few stuffed toys at Petco made by the American Kennel Club (I think) that seem pretty sturdy. At any rate, Chyna hasn't killed them yet! Pam Answer: My friend who owns that toy I posted has a lab. She has a picture of him chewing crazily on it, LOL. May's never been much of a destroyer. She is very gentle with her mouth, except when she rolls in the grass with a squeaky and wins the rag from a game of tug-o-war with Colby, when she tears it to pieces and proudly naps on top of the remains. Answer: Awwww !!! aren't they all so special !!! |
