"Stolen" photo on DogsterQuestion:So how do I get dogster to take a photo off of a profile there? One of Khana's puppy photos is being used by someone on dogster, who claims it's a chow named "Lily" and that it was a puppy she got from her friend's dog. While I understand that some people have a need to live in a fantasy world, this photo belongs to me .. *grumbling and all that* .. *L* I've emailed dogster twice with information showing that the photo is mine. I've had no response and the photo is still there. I've emailed the person who has the profile. No response. Surely dogster has a duty to respond? They have a place for you to click if it's a stolen photo even, but evidently that's just for their own amusement because it's been several days and they havent bothered to do anything about it. Has anyone had any luck dealing with dogster on something like this? Here's the profile with the stolen photo: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/324221 Here's the profile I just put up (I had to put up a profile or I couldn't email the other person!): http://www.dogster.com/dogs/500505 Melanie and the gang in Alaska .. by the way, this is not the first time this photo has been used .. someone advertised chow puppies for sale on puppyfind and used Khana's photo! Puppyfind responded quickly and removed it, however. Answer: It incredibly crappy that dogster has not gotten back to you, yet. I would be sure to put a copyright on all of your photos from now on. I doubt there is a phone number for dogster and I'm sure they get lots of emails.. are there multiple emails to use? Hmm, are you sure they have not replied and it went to your spam? Answer: I say Ditto to the copyright...^^ Answer: My friend Krista had the same thing happen multiple times with her chihuahua. She puts a watermark on all of her photos now. It's really pathetic how people will do that =/ Answer: That's really sucky of someone. Now I wonder if there are photos of Sawyer floating around with someone claiming it's their dog? :( Answer: Just keep reporting it-I did for ya again:) Answer: I would contact the poster and tell the person point blank that the photo is copyright as all things on the net are. Copyright laws are very clear about it. Warn the poster to remove your photo immediately or you will take action. Put COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT ON DOGSTER in the subject line. Attach a copy of this. http://www.copyright.gov/title17/92chap2.html Answer: Hey everyone - Thanks for the comments/ideas and support! I just got back online (been outrageously busy today) and there's a message from dogster: "Melanie, Thanks for the head's up. This dog has been removed from Dogster. We are so sorry your pup's picture was taken improperly. Woof! -dogster-" I checked and the fake profile is gone. Maybe getting a message from joce, too, made them jump to attention! *LOL* I've considered the copyright/watermark directly on the photos, but to me those really distract from photos and I don't like them .. I suppose it would make people less likely to steal them, but is it worth making the photo less appealing? *L* I don't know. This one on dogster wasn't that big of a deal, but I really didn't like her photo being used to sell puppies on puppyfind! I hope no one got taken because they fell for her cute little face. Melanie Answer: Oh good! Almost can't blame the thief. Beautiful dog. I guess you might call it a sincere form of flattery. Answer: Good thing that is taken down now. I just recently joined Dogster with Brady. What does it mean when you leave the dog a bone? Answer: You aren't the only one with this problem. A friend of mine breeds afghans.. Her and her mentor were looking at puppyfind and have found some of their dogs pics being used, and famous dogs they recognize who are now dead... This is one of her puppies from a litter 2 years ago, who so doesn't belong to this person.. http://www.dogster.com/dogs/136861 I just flagged it and linked it to her kennel, but after the fun Melanie had getting her dog removed, Not sure how well it'll go. Answer: This is a huge problem on dogster... I have had my photo's stolen from there as well. It's becoming a big problem, all because there are like 10 year old kids running about unsupervised on the internet. I know of many children that have stolen pics of a dog to play on there. Answer: Wow, now I'm sure some of my dogs are being used on there too. Haha... they probably are. On one forum I was on, it was the 'cool' thing to have a show dog. (Not really, but several 'high up' people had dogs that showed) We had several members that 'got' new dogs and showed them off as their own 'show dogs' when we could all find the pictures on the internet. I don't see why people feel the need to try so hard to impress strangers across the world that they're most likely never going to meet by coming up with all sorts of ridiculous claims. Especially considering that none of the members on that forum cared whether or not you had a show dog. Answer: You aren't the only one with this problem. A friend of mine breeds afghans.. Lol, at least remove the www.PuppyFind.com if you're going to steal a photo... What fun do people see in stealing photos and pretending they have a dog? I don't get it. Answer: I can understand someone wanting to have the dog of their dreams .. I'm actually flattered to a certain extent that Khana's picture is so well-liked! The story behind it is that I posted it on Khana's puppy pages and someone evidently put it on their blog. From there, it ended up getting listed as the first photo you saw when you typed in "chow chow" in google (I don't think it's first any more, but was for quite a long time). And then it ended up a few other places. It's on some chow chow page in another language - as far as I can tell, it's one of those informational pages about the breed .. *L* .. while the photo is really CUTE, it's not exactly a representative photo for a breed page! But for people to take the photo and then claim her as their dog .. well, that doesn't need to happen! I'm a bit possessive when it comes to my dogs .. *grin* .. they're MINE and ONLY MINE!!! *LOL* I'm glad that dogster responded and took the page down. They're so popular that they really do need to keep their site clean and as free as possible of stolen content. Melanie and the gang in Alaska Answer: Khana is the 15th picture if you google Chow chow. And the site is in Spanish too. :yikes: http://www.cachorros.org/razasdeperros/perroschowchow.php What a popular little girl. Answer: Know that many must have seen my Ollie on Petfinder.com !!! Who could not have stolen his smile ! He could be anywhere - everywhere !!! BUT... he sleeps with ME!! Answer: True enough RedHot.. I pointed that out.. I was like it says puppyfind on it! Darn profile's been up more than a year too. With a load of afghan 'friends' linked to it.. Answer: Wow, Khana is popular! No wonder so many poeple have begun copyrighting their photos. Who knows if someone's used my dogs. I know another Chazzer had her dogs used on a bully breed site (w/o permission). It makes me wonder how many dogs on Dogster really belong to someone else. And the one with the picture with www.puppyfind.com (http://www.puppyfind.com) in the corner. . .lol. . .if you're going to be a little sneak and pass someone else's dog as your own, at least be smart about it. Answer: Some people are just creepy wierdos. D:< Answer: Some people are just creepy wierdos. D:< Want creepy weirdo.. ALL the dogs who are the stolen photos friend .. ALL the names start with A.. They ALL appear to be afghans and they ALL live in Abernant, AL Freak with way too much time on their hands? Answer: This prompted me to to a search for Collies on Dogster. Tosca is safe. I'm on there but I somehow just don't see the value of that place beyond posting photos and telling others you like their dogs. Now I know that's a nice thing, but beyond that, it really needs another purpose in life. But that could just be me. Sometimes I don't get it. I'm a member of DENSA. Answer: I had a pic of my mishka taken & copied & they used a pic of her to advertise her somewhere in america for a couple hundred $, unbelievable what folks will do. |
