cat pooping

Question:
Hi. Sorry if this seems redundant, but I haven't really seen my situation here. I have 3 cats, 1 male 2 females, male is 12, females are 11 and 9. 11 year old female, (sami ), has recently decided to poop in the house ( not in the litter box ). Last week, she was obviously sick, her stool was runny and she wasn't feeling well. She pooped 2 times on the shag carpet, once right in front of me. I know I heard that is her trying to tell me she's not feeling well. Ok, fast forward to this morning. She's been feeling fine, and my wife called me and said Sami pooped 2 times, once on that same place in the shag carpet, and once somewhere else. These were not the runny kind, and she seems to feel fine. I don't know what to thing, other than that she is getting lazy. She likes to sleep downstairs and the litter box is upstairs. I'm not sure what to do about this. I can't have a lazy cat that is going to use my house as her bathroom, but I don't want to get rid of her. There must be a solution. Thanks, floyd
Answer:
Good morning, I have 2 female cats ages 12 and 13. The 12 year old was sick about a year ago and pooped in the house with runny stools. Once she was ok she started using the litter box. Recently, 3 months ago she started pooping in the house, her stools are not runny and she seems to go in the same place. She knows when she has pooped on the carpet is a no no and hides. She also get hyper when she has to go but, I have not been able to get her to the litter box as she runs and hides. Following these poop accidents I have been picking her up showing her the poop tell her no, I and pick up a stool take her and the stool to the litter box and make the motion with her to cover up ther stool and leave her in the bath room where I have one litter box for and hour after the accident. She whines initally but soon makes herself confortable on the back of toilet. I have another box in the basement which is not used as much and the one upstairs. I clean them out every morning and the one upstairs is cleaned 2 to 3 times a day. This A.M. I cleaned out the litter box, I was estatic that she did not poop on the carpet, I went to feed and called her but she was hiding went to look and she had pooped on the carpet minutes from me passing the place where she poops. Two nights ago she pooped in the hallway while my husband and I were watching TV I gave up and thought I check out the web for help. Anyone who has ideas to correct this please let me know. Thank, Luan

I don't know. Mine is the same. She started out pooping on the carpet when she was sick, and now she does it in the same place out of habit I guess. Just the other day, we got another litter box and put it downstairs on the main level. It is being used, and she hasn't pooped on the rug since. But it's only been a couple of days. I'll wait and see. I think she's just getting too lazy to go upstairs to poop. Hopefully putting another box downstairs will take care of the problem.
