Dishonest horse woman

Question:
Hello! Although new to the site, I need assistance w/ how to handle a dishonest horse woman. I'm leasing a horse from a stable, the owner lives over 100 miles away, and ask that someone please lease her to assist w/ the mare's care. Thus, I came into the picture. She is a beautiful paint hunter/draft mare @ 16.1 hands. However, I've never met the owner, I've simply dealt w/ the stable owner (who has been married multiple times and several boyfriends, thus a lot of $$$ problems associated w/ all these relationships). I discovered this stable when I moved to my new home and wanted to take riding lessons, however the stable owner would often "forget" the scheduled lessons for a more lucrative job (i.e., hauling horses) and never took the care to inform nor reschedule the lesson at an appropriate time. She actually asked that I simply take a day off from work each work -- how indecent and impossible! Thus, she told me about the mare I'm now leasing. However, it wasn't until a month later that the mare had navicular syndrome. On the positive side, now that I'm informed of this, when I do purchase a horse I'll be much better informed. However, I did not appreciate the dishonesty. I've asked on several occassions that I be informed of weekend trail rides of which she charges $15 to haul each horse to the various trails. I do not mind paying this fee, yet it seems on each ride she discusses her financial woes and how she is trying to "drum" up some money. This ruins my ride and to help her (and perhaps shut her up!) I found housing for her son who was to attend a college out of town. Yet, this fell through and now I've discovered she has been informing other boarders how I ruined this for her and now her son has to attend a local college. Also, she has been blaming me for her inadequacies and that I work for her! I've also discovered that another boarder had the same occur to him, that he was working for her to pay for a horse, but has been working for over 2 years and logged over 600 hours of labor and not yet been given title to the horse! 600 hours even at minimum wage is a lot of money and the horse only cost $2K. Upon my neighbor discoverying where I ride, she had her granddaughter inform me that when she worked there in exchange for riding lessons, she too was worked like a "horse" and only rode a few times and a broken wrist. She confirmed that the stable owner would often yell and blame others, too. This stable owner kicks her dogs when they get in the way, places one on a horse so it will jump for fun, the poor little thing now limps. The first time I met her she asked that I take a horse to a pasture w/ a green gate, I walked up and down the lane w/ her screaming at me, and placed the horse in a pasture w/ a red gate, which is what she actually meant. Now, she complains she is not making money b/c not enough trail riders, well I've given her my number several times. She complains that since she has no $$$ she cannot purchase gas in which to travel to other clients and haul horses or hoof trimmings. Nothing is her fault, always a problem, etc. I'm allowed to use the barn grooming brushes, yet advised to purchase my own shampoos and fly spray. Of which I did and kept them in my vehicle b/c feared of them disappearing. However, on the one occassion I did, they did dissappear. The stable owner had actually taken off the caps and poured the contents into her own bottles! Now, I'm on a budget due to education expenses (working on masters), I've not owned a horse in 15 years, yet have taken lessons since, my time is also spent studying, thus leasing is the best option. This stable is only a few miles from my home and convenient, thus I now ride in the evenings on weekends when others are not around to prevent interaction with this individual (stable owner), I simply like the peace and quiet and time w/ my leased mare. When the mare is "lame" I've been advised that I may ride any of the other horses for no extra fee, they need to be "worked" after all. This is fine by me. I now know that when I do purchase a horse, that I will not purchase one from her nor board at her stable. Yet, other boarders just love her! I just don't get it! She knows horses, yet is dishonest and abusive. She has befriended a man that has been arrested several times for battering woman. The other ladies at the stable just adore him, he has called me gay for not having swooned over him! He is in jail now, and these ladiesvisit him. I'm a paralegal and find it all disgusting! If it were not for my profession, I'd post the stable and owners name to warn others. Thus, my question, have any of you gals encountered such a dishonest "horse trader?" Thank you!
