Introduction: Sami and Boogie with StuQuestion:Hullo Everyone, I’m Sami, 30 year old married female in Los Angeles, CA. Currently, my husband and I share our home with two cats, Boogie and Stu (named after the Led Zeppelin tune *wink*). Stu is 2.5 years old and Boogie is 1.5 years old. Both are black, indoor only, active, loving, sweet, close friends and an intermittent pains in my a**. As soon as I post this, I’ll put pics of them in the gallery. =o) Hope you all are doing well! Sami Details about our boys: Stu: Stewy is a rescue. He was found alone and half dead from starvation & dehydration in a parking structure downtown LA. We aren’t sure how old he was when found, but our doctor thinks he was about 3-4 weeks old. Once we got home and fattened up, he seemed the picture of health…until this past fall. I’ll omit the scary/icky details, but suffice to say that a bout of persistent vomiting prompted a trip to the vet and we determined that he had a large section of necrotic tissue in his large intestine that was most likely caused by severe abdominal trauma when he was wee. This dead tissue had caused the majority of his GI tract to twist itself into a little ball. Luckily, we got to it just in time (Doc said he would have been dead within a few hours if we hadn’t brought him in), and after a barium scope study, a surgery (wherein 8 inches of intestinal tissue were removed), and two weeks in the hospital he came home to us. Since then, he has put on weight, his fur near the surgery and IV sites has grown back, his personality is brighter, he is more active…he’s just healthy and well. Whew! Stu is the most mellow, sweetest cat I have ever lived with. He LIKES to ride in the car. He LIKES to walk on his lead. He likes to snuggle with me while I’m in the bath. He’s awesome! Boogie: Is also a rescue. He had been placed in a cardboard box that was tapped closed and thrown in a dumpster. My husband heard him yeowling and dug him out. (Can you believe that people are so cruel??) Luckily, our little boy has GIANT lungs. As much as they irritate at 4AM every morning, they saved his life, and we are thankful. Boog is affectionately nicknamed ‘the tank’ around our house. He is stocky, robust, (a little chunky, but we are working on that) and unstoppable. He’s a bit more high strung than his brother (a little anxious being out in the yard with us and in the car) but he is *VERY* sweet. We are still working out some small behavioral issues with scratching furniture and waking us early in the morning, but I am confident he’ll figure stuff out in time. Boogie likes water. Loves it. He likes to sit on the edge of the tub while I am in the bath and sometimes he’ll get all the way in and either sit there with the water up to his shoulders or curl on my tummy. He likes to get in the shower with my husband in the mornings as well. We LOVE this aspect of his personality, however it means that we can’t (or rather we won’t) use water as an aversive. Luckily, he doesn’t require much conditioning with aversives. =o) Anyway, as you can tell…I LOVE my kitties and could talk about them for pages and pages, so I’ll sign off now. Hope to get to know you guys better, S Answer: Wow, you do like talking about them! Well, welcome to the site, I'm sure you'll meet a lot of like-minded people. Plus, I also see Boogie and Stu made pet of the week this week! |
