Any one heard of this?!?!Question:By GP was taken to the vets 6 months ago with a lump on the side of his face, the vet said it was an absess and drained it, then because his teeth were over grown she filed the back to normal. Again he has this lump on the side or his head next to his back 2 teeth, I tried to take him back to see her but she was on maternity leave and so the other vet (this guy who never seems to have time for little furry things or most things for that matter) said it didnt feel like an absess but put him on baytrill for 4 days anyway, which just made my poor little mings feel even worse so I rang up my dogs vet (who also treats small animals but get the go ahead about every thing from his boss which doesnt sound too bad) he has not yet fully studied in small mammals in the way of GP but likes them loads. So anyway i took my Mingles there instead and he said to take him of the antibiotics as they would not work anyway, gave him some food to seringe (sorry cant spell) and some probiotics which perked the little guy back up. Anyway he went back in today to have this "absess" drained and he found it was very boney, so he did an x ray, which showed it wasnt a tumor or an absess, infact it is his 3 back teeths roots growing out and taing some of the jaw with them. He says he has seen it in horses but never heard of it in GPs. He has sent him home with more liquid food and he is going to ask some of the best small fury mammal peoples around the country to see what they say. Or and he has raspped Minges teeth back again. Also Mingles had some old food and some hay or wood mixed up at the back of his bad teeth. Sorry it so long but i want to describe as much about it as possible to get the best replys. Abit of info about Mingles: Male @ 2 years old, lives with his 2 bros in a cage indoors next to his 3 sister and mum. The lump came up within a week and he lost about 200g in about 4 to 5 days. Answer: Just an update: Over the christmas period mingles carried on not eating much exept for the liquid food (which i mixed with mushed up pelleted food) and as he was not wating much of this has now lost 1/4 of his body weight since I noticed the lump. I took him back to the vets and they said to up his dose of metacam (I think its called that, it a pain killer made for dogs but I have used it n the past on reptiles) from 6 drops to 9 that night and to bring him back the next day (yesterday Friday) to have the 2 problem teeth out the 3rd didnt seem to be causeing a problem at a closer look. As the poor little guy had been in so much pain he had been refusing to eat at all on the side and so the teeth had grown back a lot. He came home last night quite but the vet said he was suprised at how active he was after an anesetic (theat my mings hes a tough one) and so i got him home at about 7:45 gave him some liquid food and again at 11 and then at 1:30 (during the night), about 6 this morning then every 2 or 3 hours after that. So far he has eaten a tiny bit of tomato, a bit of cucumber, some gerty GP, liquid food (he prefers it on its own), liquid food mixed with pelleted mashed (not a lot) and hay, he has had pain killler (9drops), baytrill (antibiotic)(0.2ml am, 0.2ml pm) but doesnt seem to like his probiotic (i have to make it up to 50ml of water so it takes ages to get any down him). Answer: Just to say the op was a sucess and he is now back to thumping his bros (he hits them with his paws when he want to get to the food bowl) and his weight is now at 1200g, nearly what it was before he got ill. |
