That is soooo complicated. And prices vary soo much that I could not tell you one set price at all. If you want to buy a horse, you should find out every possible detail, then present it to your mom. Sometimes parents can decide better when they have all the set facts there. Educate yourself as much as possible, and maybe have a trainer/instructor help you out. Professionals always know how to help. I would suggest to start out with leasing a horse though, which will help you get an idea of what its really like to own a horse. If you are leasing a horse, here are some of the things you need to find out: *and this is if you know what horse you want to lease* 1. The price of the lease 2. What the lease includes (vet fees, farrier, feed, hay?) 3. If not included in the lease: farrier, vet checks, feed, hay 4. Will tack be included? 5. What are the terms of hte lease? Usually the owner of the farm/owner of the horse can give you as much info as possible. And your mom is right, horses are very expensive, so you have to pick and choose very carefully. I would say not to even think about getting a horse untill you have found out local rates of all the above (and any more that your trainer tells you about). Good Luck!!

hi, i am in the same situation!!!i am a jumper and i live in florida. apperenty horses ARE VERY EXPENSIVe!! the place i am looking to board at has full TOP QUALITY BOARD for $400 per month.o.k...say you were going to board at a place for $400 (like me hopefully)and you were going to buy a horse for say...$5000 (you can get them anywhere from free-thousands of dollers!depending on the training and experience thehorse has) and you wre gonna get the hoofs trimed every month for $30 (shoes will cost more depending on the ferrier...i am just saying trim)ans get the horse a cheak up 2 times a year at $500 per visit (most of the time they dont need it this much...just to be safe i am putting it)and you were gonna enter 10 shows a year for 10 dollers (approxamitly 10 shows) the total for the first year including the $5000 horse would be about $10,570 then each fallowing year would be $5,570...not a bad price really...BUT you have to consider the price it is going to be for nice tack and grooming supplies fly sprays, cleaners, first aid supplies ect...the best kind of tack to get is leather because it last longer,it is easy to clean and it smells great!!!(it dose cost more that synthetic leather though but the investment is awesome!) leaseing a horse really depends on the owner usualy it is no more that $250 a month depending on the owner again.and this also depends if they are gonna let you use thier tack or if you are going to buy your own...the price for all tack added up is so hard to name because there are all different types of saddles,girths,bits,sturrups,martingales,...EVERYTHING!! but if i were you and i was going to buy tack...i would put at least $3000 aside for nice leather tack and supplies. go to statelinetack.com and they have a bunch of verietys of tack to choose from! bye bye
