Praising my vetQuestion:I was responding to another post just a moment ago..."A couple of years ago I caugt my dog, Goober, chowing down on the remains of a fish that had been buried in the garden. A pretty big fish when it started out, not much left when I caught him. He was fine, though yucky and had to be bathed. Also... he drank my triple shot 16oz. mocha. I was concerned about both the caffiene (very small dog) and the chocolet. I whisked him off to the vet who gave him peroxide, attempting to make him regurgitate. Didn't work. He digested all that, too. He did that in the first year of his life... he's 6 now. The vet chuckles every time I bring him in because it's always something bizzare. Like the wasp sting on his nose.. he stuck his nose right into the nest. I ran him to the vet who gave him a big pill to keep down the swelling. I was back two days later... same problem, same nest. He didn't even book Goob for an appointment.. I walked in, he tossed a pill at me while walking from one room to the next, shook his head and waved. No charge. After having written this, I began to think about how much our vet has meant to us. Does anyone have similar stories? Answer: Sure do...years ago when I was single, working and always broke, I took in a stray kitten. She was beautiful and I fell in love with her. Named her Pushkin . Well I got the usual shots for her, fed her on store bought cat food, and when she was about 8 months or so I quess I decided to have her spayed. Didn't take her to the vet where I took her before, too expensive. A friend told me about a vet in the poorer section of Syracuse who was great with animals and not too expensive. Took Pushkin in and wanted to leave her to get her spayed. Coming from a small town in upstate NY and remembering what my friend told me about this vet, I asked him if I could pay a little at a time on the bill. He said yes. I couldn't believe it. I picked up my kittie, and this vet never mentioned $ again. He never even sent me a bill. When I called and asked how much I owed him, his receptionist said it's been taken care of. I guess there are princes in this world. I know my vet was one. Needless to say he got all my business after that. I sent him a thank you card I was so tickled. I guess I thought I was back in my home town I felt so glad. I wonder where vets like that are now? Answer: My vet and I are good together..We have known each other 20+ years and she has always been the Vet I use. I had her on call when my female was ready to whelp and she had some of her staff on call also. We had problems with the whelp but just to show how much she cares she did cesarian was there til 10 pm and no extra charges. When put my older golden down because of Cancer my Vet had tears in her eyes also as she knew her so many years. I have brought in coffee, soda and doughnuts and get TY notes from her. I see her on the street and she ask how all are doing and knows all my animals by name and now that is just 3 dogs and 4 cats but ask about others we adopted out also. I have even told her future plans of starting my own boarding kennels/NO KILL shelter and she said jokingly that she could not refer people as my love of animals they may not get pets back. But does know if a animal came in that was sick or abused she would be called in to check it out. She does not make you feel dumb if ask a question, and she helps me when looking at dogs talks to Vets they used if buying one and tells me if they think these have been took care of properly by talking to other vets. I have told her also after a bad DR appointment that from now on will go see her cheaper, and better bedside manner. Maybe as in a small town but have used others for heartworm treatments as cheaper but Vicki makes me feel good when go in there where other Vets treat you like CRAP! Feel like family there. |
