3month old Lab/Akita? mix has Nasal Discharge.HELP

Question:
Hello, We rescued a Lab/Akita (that's what the vet thinks he is)?? mix 3month old male puppy from the pound this past Saturday 12/30. We called him "Jonah" He is very active, eats well & drinks plenty and sleeps through the night fine. His paperwork shows that he was born approx. Sept./2006 and he was Vacinated on 12/17/06 and Nuetered on 12/27. The day we brought him home, we noticed in the paperwork there were some Antibiotics (Simplecef) that the vet the pound took him to had issued. They say to take 1/2 of the 100mg pill once a day for 5 days. I followed the instructions until the My Vet opened again on Tuesday 1/2/07. On Sunday I noticed his nose had a light greenish mucus coming out of both nostrils when i wiped it onto a white tissue, it would be clear and just wet the tissue. Now Tuesday was here I first called my vet to to take him in that day at 11am. The Vet saw him and said he looked healthy but was concered about the nasal discharge. He asked if Jonah had been vomiting or has Diarrhea, loss of appetite or lethargic and he had no dishcarge from his eyes and of course I answered "No" to all of the above. He asked me to contact him on Thursday 1/4/07 if the nasal discharge was still occuring and he would prescribe something else. He wants to make sure that it is not Canine Distemper. He also ask that I keep him isolated form my 1.5 year old Border Collie who is up to date on her shots. When I got back home, I realized that I let my Border Collie (Molly) and Jonah play for about 2 days off and on. I am hoping that she doesn't catch whatever it is he may have. So after all this I contacted the Vet that the pound had taken him to and the one who prescribed the Simplecef. I gave them all the info. I just mentioned above and they said I more than likely have nothing to worry about because they get a LOT of puppies that come from the pound that have a lot of what she called "SNOT NOSE" and they prescribe Simplecef for it to be sure no other infection sets in. So now I'm here worried playing this waiting game and hoping my dog has nothing serious. I've removed the glade scent fans in my house just in case that was causing an allergic reaction and we'll see how it goes. Anything you can suggest or any idea what might be wrong? Should I still worry about Distemper since he's already had this discharge for a little over 2 weeks. How about my healthy border collie....should I worry? Thanks and sorry for the long post but just worried. Mike
Answer:
yes, you still need to worry about distemper, all the other things you mentioned & then some. You have provided him the best in medical care by getting him in there right away. Altho your other dog is UTD, no VX is 100% however that dog would certainly have a lot more protection than this puppy does. don't allow visitors, or anyone to handle your dogs. You can find out a lot by googling - here is one http://www.jphpk.gov.my/English/health%20differential%20dog.htm Good luck, please let us know how its going.

Thank you for your response, You mentioned not to allow anyone to handle my dog. Just wondering why that is? Is it ok if my wife and I handle him? Or is this not recommended either and if not then how do I give him attention and spend quality time with him? Thanks, Mike
