Want to adopt conure or quaker, Normal, IllinoisQuestion:Hi! My name is Melissa and I am posting ALL over the place anywhere I can because I would like to adopt in to my family a Conure or Quaker. I have a nice cage with toys and have done all the research for about 2 years now and I think I am finally ready. I would give this bird an amazing home with great vet care and lots of attention and love and time out of the cage. We are even setting up perches and swings in our living room! :) I can give a vet reference and several references from people i have adopted from, or rescued pets from ( I did do small scale rescue for a while) I have other pets which include 1 elderly sweet dog, 2 very lazy cats, and several spoiled rotten pet rats. My pets are forever a part of my family and will live with me till the end of their time. I understand that birds live a long time, I am still young (23) and am a mother and know that I am ready for this commitment. I live my life taking care of others because that it was I enjoy most. I am willing to pay a reasonable adoption fee and drive up to 3 hours to pick up a bird. While I expect the adoption fee to be atleast $50 to $75 I ask that it be no more than $100 because I plan to take this bird immediately to the vet for a full on exam, DNA testing, fecal tests, wing clip, and check for health problems, if any problems arise they will be taken care of ASAP at my own expense. I tend to spend lots of money on this birdie its whole life so that is why I am wanting a low adoption fee, by no means is it because I am cheap, I just want to be able to do lots of other expensive things for him/her. I do ask that this bird is not agressive or skittish. I would like to adopt a bird who is social for the most part and likes to come out of his/her cage and enjoys people but I am not extremely picky, just don't want a mean bird, those I feel should go to more experiecned bird owners. Please consider me for adopting your bird if you do have one available, Im anxious to find the right one! :) My email address is pixiesworld@hotmail.com ... THANKS! Answer: check out pet finder.com there are several rescues near you....although alot of the rescues require documented expirence with birds before they will adopt....good luck Answer: Hi, It's great that you've done a lot of research and all. :) There are literally tons of bird rescues everywhere since a lot of people jump into birds without fully knowing what to expect. If you have been posting on a lot of messageboards that you are looking to adopt without getting any good replies that is probably because most rescues have an application and interview they want you to complete before they consider you for a bird. If there is anyone who works at a rescue seeing your posts they are probably not very likely to just offer you a bird. Most likely you will have to actively seek out a rescue yourself. I will warn you though, like someone already mentioned to you, that many rescues want someone already experienced with birds. Birds can often be very complicated to care for, physically and mentally, and many of the birds that end up in rescues are there because they developed behavior that their owners found impossible to deal with. There are many great birds in rescues, but it may be hard to find exactly the species and personality you're looking for. Good luck. Petfinder is a great idea. |
