New Puppy!

Question:
Hello, if you've read my other post about me getting a Yorkshire terrier, you'll know that I've been waiting a while 'til I got my baby, but we went to pick her up from the breeder on Monday 7/3/06! (Yesterday...)She's the SWEETEST dog and loves to give little puppy kisses. She's trained to use the "puppy pads" but I'm trying to get her used to going outside. She's AKC registered and has Grand Champion bloodlines. Her granddad made it to Grand Champion. She's a gorgeous little dog and I love her already! There are just a few things..... 1. She is very timid, and when I call her or walk up to her her tail is wagging, but low, and her ears are back and she shakes, and just looks up at me, then when I put my hand out she'll start licking it, and then run into her crate. I told the breeder about this, and she said "well, she probably thought she was in trouble." I had to stop myself from asking whether or not she beat her with a stick when she was in trouble or not, but that would've been weird...lol. But another thing is 2. the breeder told us she'd never seen the light of day except to go to the vet, and when I take her outside to go the bathroom she starts shaking really bad....i suppose she's scared, but how would I help encourage her that outside is good? She won't eat treats...(she eats food fine)but 3.the last thing is she's started coughing...now, she's on meds for having diahreha, and her sister had a cold (the breeder's daughter had turned the a/c up really high one night, and the puppies cage had been right over a vent), so I'm wondering if the coughing is just from that, or if it's something else (possible kennel cough?) the breeder seemed really knowledgable and everything (I'd been reading up on Yorkies for about 1-2yrs, so she seemed to know what I knew and more) and she had like 15-20 little Yorkies (all indoor dogs) and they all seemed well kept and healthy, and they all had very nice fur (they're on Nutro food, as is our puppy) but I'm just wondering whether or not we should go to the vet because of this (I have a 48hr guarentee)...? Let me know what you think. I mean if she's already on meds...what could the vet do? (possibly confirm that she's okay?) Thanks for anything & everything. ;) -Lauren

She's no longer coughing, so that's nothing to worry about. ;) Can anyone help me w/ the nervousness and shaking? She's alot more social now...(yesterday was her 1st day home) and she's already giving us tons of kisses and is eat & driking fine, she's also coming to us when we call, but she's really nervous and shaky, and her ears are back...sometimes she'll whine....we have another puppy (yorkie mix) who knows the routes around here, and I thought she'd help the process, but at first she made it worse. Lucy would bite and wrestle w/her and she was just shaking. :( Poor thing. Now she's starting to defend herself and play along w/ her, but she's still conserved. I want her to be a normal puppy (happy-go-lucky) and want to play, but she's so scared of us. When I try taking her outside she seems nervous, should I try taking her out w/ Lucy so she sees what to do?? Or will they just play and not get any business done? The puppy (both) are vaccinated, on flea & tick preventative, and heartworm meds, so they aren't suseptable to anything outside, but I still don't want them out for long (I don't want to be out for long either! lol! It's about 95-99 degrees F!!!). We've had a warm summer, so the puppies are limited to playtime outside and walks (we live at a chuch where my father pastors, and our whole yard except for a 1acre field, is black top-HOT). Although I try to get them out every 1-3hrs, give them at least 1-2 good walks daily. will go on to new post...running out of room

....I want to be able to do more things w/ her like go on car rides, and take her to petsmart w/ me, but she's so timid....how can I snap her out of it? We're supposed to be attending a once a week (for 8 weeks) puppy class, to help us to bond, but will that help w/ her shyness as well? I just want her to be happy...please let me know if you've had issues like this or if you have any advice. Thank you so much!
